RPPL’s Role in Advancing Women, Peace, and Security

Supporting Kenya’s National Action Plan II (2020–2024) in line with UNSCR 1325

The Regional Pastoralists Peace Link (RPPL) has played a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of Kenya’s National Action Plan II (KNAP II) for 2020–2024, aligning with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.

  • Participation & Promotion: RPPL actively worked to include women in decision-making processes related to peace, security, and disaster management. It focused on empowering women’s leadership and ensuring their access to essential resources.
  • Prevention: The organization contributed to conflict prevention efforts by integrating traditional knowledge into early warning systems and advocating for gender-sensitive approaches in the security sector.
  • Protection: RPPL emphasized safeguarding vulnerable groups, including facilitating the placement of women and girls in rescue centers during crises.
  • Relief & Recovery: RPPL ensured women’s active involvement in relief efforts and connected them to economic empowerment programs as part of post-conflict recovery strategies.

RPPL’s efforts have not only bridged gaps in peace-building frameworks but also established it as a critical player in the Women, Peace, and Security agenda. Through the support of GCERF, UN Women-Kenya, and Weltfriedensdienst – World Peace Service, RPPL has scaled up its contributions and now plays an integral role in Kenya’s KNAP process.
